Fake AUSTRAC emails targeting the public

AUSTRAC is warning members of the public about a scam involving emails impersonating AUSTRAC officials. These emails claim there is suspicious activity on your account or request business documents. In some cases, they refer to large sums of money or urge urgent action.

These emails are not legitimate and have no connection to AUSTRAC.

What to watch for:

  • Claims that AUSTRAC has detected unusual transactions or sent documents on your behalf
  • Requests to provide personal or business details via links or online forms outside of AUSTRAC Online
  • Pressure to act quickly.

Stay safe:

  • Do not click on any links or respond to the email
  • Do not provide any personal or business information
  • Report suspicious emails to Scamwatch

AUSTRAC will never:

  • Contact individuals about personal bank accounts or transfers
  • Ask for information via unsolicited online forms
  • Send unexpected attachments or documents.
