Virtual asset
A digital representation of value that both:
- may be transferred, stored or traded electronically
- aren’t issued by or under the authority of a government body.
Virtual assets have certain functions, such as:
- a medium of exchange
- a store of economic value
- a unit of account
- an investment
- a governance token for distributed autonomous organisations.
This doesn’t include Central Bank Digital Currencies and other government issued virtual assets.
Virtual asset service provider
An entity that, as a business, provides designated services involving virtual assets to a customer, such as the exchange, transfer or safekeeping of virtual assets.
Virtual asset wallet
A physical or virtual means of storing private keys that allow the holder to control virtual assets.
