Read our recent statement about our use of AI

Public trust in the Australian Government’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) is essential. AUSTRAC is committed to ensuring our use of AI is:

  • transparent
  • responsible
  • aligned with whole-of-government guidelines.

AUSTRAC is committed to expanding the way we responsibly use AI to uplift our regulatory, intelligence and corporate operations, and help improve the identifiers of money laundering, terrorism financing, and financially enabled crime.

Today, AUSTRAC published its AI Transparency Statement. The statement reinforces our commitment to responsible, transparent, and well-governed AI use in line with the Digital Transformation Agency’s (DTA) AI guidance. This statement outlines:

  • how we currently use AI, including public generative AI tools for research and discovery in line with DTA guidance
  • future AI adoption, where we are piloting AI for the purposes of Workplace Productivity and Analytics for Insights while maintaining human-in-the-loop oversight
  • governance and security measures that ensure compliance with privacy, regulatory, and national security requirements.
