Collection of your personal information for the management of your usage of AUSTRAC educational material

The Australian Transactions Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) collects personal information about individuals for a range of purposes to enable it to carry out its functions. This collection is undertaken in accordance with the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) and AUSTRAC’s Privacy Policy; further information on the way AUSTRAC uses personal information is available in AUSTRAC’s Privacy Statement

Who is collecting your personal information?

 

We are collecting your personal information through the Elearn.austrac.gov.au platform (the Education Platform). 

The Education Platform has been certified as meeting all Australian Government standards for the security of personal information.

Collection of your

Your personal information (your name, e-mail address and other identifiers) will be collected for the purpose of granting you access to AUSTRAC educational material and monitoring your usage, and the usage of your organisation, of this material.

Our monitoring will include reporting of activities and analysis to identify ways in which we can improve our educational offerings.

Authority for the collection of personal information

We regulate entities that have obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism-Financing Act 2006 (Cth) (AML/CTF Act) and the repealed Financial Transactions Report Act 1988 (Cth) (FTR Act).

Our regulation includes the provision of educational material to these entities to assist them in meeting their obligations under the AML/CTF Act and the repealed FTR Act.

Why is AUSTRAC

information?

We collect your personal information for the purpose of the management of your usage of AUSTRAC educational material.
What would happen if you do not consent to the collection of your personal information?

You do not have to provide your personal information to us.

However, if you do not consent to AUSTRAC collecting your personal information through the Education Platform you will not be able to access the educational material available on the Education Platform.

To whom will AUSTRAC disclose your personal information?

 

We will use your personal information internally, to manage, monitor and report upon the provision of educational material to individuals associated with entities that have obligations under the AML/CTF Act and the repealed FTR Act.

We will also use your personal information for other regulatory purposes in-line with AUSTRAC’s functions under the AML/CTF Act and the repealed FTR Act.

We may disclose personal information about training completion by users of the Education Platform for their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes. Disclosures of this nature will be made to an entity external to AUSTRAC, i.e. an entity qualified to issue CPD points and/or undertake any associated CPD compliance/assurance activities.

Any mandatory disclosures of personal information required by the Privacy Act are described in our Privacy Policy.

Can you seek access to and correction of your personal information?

Our Privacy Policy contains information about how you may access and seek correction of your personal information, as held by us.

This includes any personal information we hold for the purpose of the management of your usage of AUSTRAC educational material.

Privacy complaints Our Privacy Policy contains information about how you may enquire about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles and how we manage privacy complaints.
Overseas disclosure of your personal information We will not disclose personal information collected and held for the purpose of the management of your usage of AUSTRAC educational material to overseas parties.
