Next steps for AML/CTF reforms
Public consultation on the second exposure draft of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Rules (AML/CTF Rules) closed on Friday 27 June.
Thank you to everyone who submitted a response to the consultation. We are reviewing your submissions and will make necessary adjustments to the Rules.
Finalisation of the Rules and other important dates
We’ll be reviewing all submissions on the draft Rules carefully and releasing the AML/CTF Rules in August. Other important reform implementation dates for the remainder of 2025 include:
- May to July 2025: Targeted consultation on draft core guidance via working groups with industry associations and peak bodies
- October 2025: Finalisation of core guidance
- October to November 2025: Targeted consultation on sector-specific guidance in industry working groups
- December 2025: Finalisation of sector-specific guidance for newly regulated sectors.
When do you need to enrol under the AML/CTF reforms
31 March 2026 is when enrolment opens for businesses new to AML/CTF regulation, including providers of certain designated services, including real estate professionals, dealers in precious stones, metals and products, lawyers, conveyancers, accountants and professional service providers. AUSTRAC cannot accept enrolment details from these businesses until this date.
We expect that by 1 July 2026 you will have identified whether your business comes under the scope of the amendments, and if so, be enrolled as a reporting entity, have an AML/CTF program and be ready to report suspicious matters.
