I joined
AUSTRAC in 1989 to be part of Australia’s anti-money laundering
program, to help to make our environment hostile to facilitators of money
laundering.
I’m still here, because there are still many challenges ahead of
us.
Our work ensures that a range of financial service providers and many
others identify their customers to reduce the occurrence of false name
bank and other accounts - and, report certain financial transactions to
us.
Through our compilation and analysis functions, we monitor and identify
money laundering related to serious crime and major tax evasion.
We provide this financial intelligence to a range of law enforcement,
revenue, national security and social justice agencies, and also to some
overseas agencies.
